Volunteering at RDA is a wonderfully rewarding experience. As a volunteer any contribution you can make to our centre helps our riders to reach their maximum potential and to fulfill their personal goals. No job is too small.
RDA needs volunteers in all aspects of the operation of our centre from February to November each year in the following areas:
Volunteers Needed for Saturday Programs The Saturday 1 and Saturday 2 Riding Programs are in desperate need of volunteers. Both programs operate approx from 8.30am until 1pm on alternate weekends. If you can help, or know of someone who is interested in helping out, please contact Judy Edwards at judymedwards@ozemail.com.au or Vicki in the office on (02) 4987 1402.
Rosemary Laing Receives NRMA Senior Volunteer Award
Rosemary's long term commitment to improving the quality of life of people with disabilities, through her service as part of Riding for the Disabled, was officially recognised as part of the NSW and ACT based awards.
Rosemary has served our Centre since 1979. She is a founding member who worked tirelessly to help establish the Raymond Terrace & Lower Hunter Centre. For the last 16 years, Rosemary has faithfully run the carriage driving program based at the Stroud Showground. This program, available every second week, provides opportunities for people with disabilities to experience the fun of driving in a safe and supportive environment.
Rosemary, Busy Lady (our Stroud based carriage driving pony for the last 13 years) and their small troop of devoted volunteers have formed an amazing team. This teamwork has encouraged their drivers to achieve personal and carriage driving goals. Many have recently successfully competed at the NSW State Carriage Driving Championships. Rosemary continues to help with fund raising events throughout the year and is instrumental in organising the annual Stanley Nicholls Memorial Stroud Ride and Drive. This year $1,600 was raised. Best Practice in Volunteer Management Our Centre entered the Hunter Volunteer Centre's awards which celebrated the achievements of volunteer organisations in the Hunter Region. Our Centre developed a sound application that highlighted our commitment to positively managing, training and encouraging our volunteers to fulfill their potential. Our Centre aims to involve our volunteers at all level and in all activities and enterprises that we undertake. We welcome community members from all walks of life and our volunteer team benefits from its mix of cultural and social backgrounds.
We were awarded the Best Practice in Volunteer Management Award for 2007. This is a wonderful achievement for our Centre, our Volunteers and our hardworking Volunteer Coordinator during that year, Mr Jack Henry.
